The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has lately sent a panel of three names to the Uttarakhand government for the appointment of a regular DGP. It is only a matter of time before the Uttarakhand government makes a choice and announces the appointment soon.
The names mentioned in the panel have kicked up dust as it excludes the name of IPS Abhinav Kumar. A 1996 batch IPS officer Mr. Kumar has been serving as an acting DGP of the state for the last ten months. According to the Home Department, the UPSC has excluded Mr. Abhinav Kumar’s name from its panel on “technical grounds.”
Topping the list, IPS Deepam Seth, a 1995 batch IPS officer, emerges as a frontrunner, followed by another 1995 batch IPS officer Mr. P V K Prasad and IPS Amit Kumar Sinha of the 1997 batch.
Officer Deepam Seth is presently serving at the Centre as the ADG in Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), whereas IPS PVK Prasad is the Director of Prosecution and IPS Amit Kumar Sinha is the ADG in Administration. The state government had sent names of seven top IPS officers to the UPSC for scrutiny. Out of those seven names, the UPSC shortlisted three names for the appointment of DGP and has now sent back its panel to the Uttarakhand government.
