The Uttar Pradesh government has intensified its efforts to crack down on criminals, especially cyber criminals, by expanding forensic infrastructure and adopting advanced technology. Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the International Conference of the Forensic Institute in Lucknow, signaling the state’s commitment to modern crime control mechanisms.
International Conference on Cyber Warfare
The three-day international summit, themed ‘Dimensions of Cyber Warfare, Multilateral Legal Framework, Forensics and Strategic Counteraction’, was inaugurated at the Uttar Pradesh State Forensic Science Institute in Banthra, Lucknow. Experts from across the globe will share insights on cybercrime, forensic technology, and strategic responses to emerging threats.
During the event, Mr. Yogi Adityanath also inaugurated the Padma Shri Dr. Lalji Singh Advanced DNA Diagnostic Center (ADDC), the Artificial Intelligence, Drone and Robotics Lab, and the Atal Library, further strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s forensic and research capabilities.
Expansion of Forensic Laboratories
Before 2017, Uttar Pradesh had only four forensic laboratories. Today, the state boasts 12 active labs, reflecting a significant expansion under the Yogi government. The digitization of more than 4 lakh fingerprints under the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) has made identification of unknown bodies and arresting criminals more efficient. Uttar Pradesh has secured the first position on the NCRB dashboard under NAFIS, highlighting its progress in digital forensics.
Forensic Education and Employment Opportunities
The state government is also focusing on the educational and employment aspects of forensic science. Establishment of new laboratories is underway in six districts including Ayodhya, Banda, Basti, Saharanpur, Mirzapur, and Azamgarh. Mr. Yogi Adityanath has earlier assured that students graduating from the State Institute of Forensic Science will not face a shortage of job opportunities, both in India and abroad.
Administrative and Developmental Impact
The expansion of forensic science infrastructure is not only strengthening the state’s law enforcement mechanisms but also creating opportunities for youth in specialized fields like cyber forensics, robotics, and artificial intelligence. By integrating advanced technology with governance, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself as a leader in cybercrime prevention and forensic education.
