Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the state’s law and order situation on Wednesday, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach towards crime. The CM directed the police to ensure immediate registration of cases, strict action against habitual offenders, and fixed accountability across ranks to strengthen public safety and maintain the rule of law.
Immediate Registration and Action on Crime
Chairing a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence, Dhami instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) to ensure all criminal incidents are promptly registered and addressed with result-oriented policing. He underscored that maintaining public safety and law enforcement effectiveness remains the government’s highest priority.
Focus on Habitual and Organised Crime
The Chief Minister laid special emphasis on habitual and organised criminal activities:
- Strengthen intelligence gathering on repeat offenders
- Maintain close surveillance on habitual criminals
- Take stringent legal action under existing provisions to deter crime
Dhami highlighted the importance of building public confidence in law enforcement through visible results.
Operational Reforms and Policing Enhancements
To improve policing efficiency, the CM directed:
- Strengthening of police stations and outposts
- Enhanced patrolling in sensitive and high-risk areas
- Focused enforcement drives in urban centres for traffic discipline and public safety
He stressed that law enforcement outcomes must be visible on the ground and warned that no leniency will be shown to anti-social elements.
Accountability and Regular Monitoring
Dhami instructed that:
- Law and order cases be reviewed regularly
- Responsibility be clearly fixed at every level of the police hierarchy
- Strict action be taken against officers failing in duty
He reiterated the government’s vision of a “crime-free Uttarakhand”, linking peace, security, and good governance to the state’s overall development agenda.
