Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar (2007-batch IAS officer) informed that a three-tier medical system has been deployed in key Char Dham districts—Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Uttarkashi—with 49 permanent health centres and 20 Medical Relief Posts activated. Transit districts like Haridwar, Dehradun, Tehri, and Pauri also have enhanced health infrastructure, including 57 screening kiosks at key entry points.
A new 17-bed hospital at Kedarnath Dham and the deployment of 31 specialist doctors, 200 medical officers, and 381 paramedical staff reinforce the seriousness of the state’s preparedness. The team also includes specialists drawn from the Government of India and private medical colleges. To date, 29 high-risk pilgrims have been advised against proceeding further, while 369 have been referred via ambulance and 33 through heli ambulance service for advanced care.
For the first time, heli ambulance services have been introduced in partnership with AIIMS Rishikesh. A total of 154 ambulances—82 from the Health Department and 72 from NAS “108” service—are on standby. Technology has also played a crucial role with the launch of the “e-Swasthya Dham” portal for real-time monitoring, backed by 50 tablets distributed across districts for digital data collection.
Training has been imparted to hotel staff, mule drivers, porters, and dharamshala employees to identify and report health risks. Multi-language IEC materials have been distributed to assist pilgrims from across India, and awareness drives are being run to combat issues like hypothermia.
The Dhami government continues to monitor the arrangements closely, reinforcing its commitment to ensure that devotees not only have a spiritually fulfilling journey but also a medically safe and satisfying experience.
