DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand Police has adopted a new identity with a redesigned flag, emblem, motto, insignia and ceremonial uniform after nearly 26 years. The changes have been introduced to reflect the changing challenges faced by the police force and its expanding responsibilities.
The existing motto, ‘Mitra, Seva, Suraksha’ (Friendship, Service and Security), is being replaced by the Sanskrit phrase ‘Karm Satyam Shauryam’, which conveys the values of duty, truth and courage.
The new design of the police insignia and symbols was approved by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on October 21, 2026. The new identity also includes a redesigned formation sign, insignia, crest and ceremonial uniform.
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Dehradun on November 6 to formally unveil the new motto and present the prestigious President’s Police Colour to Uttarakhand Police.
What Does the New Uttarakhand Police Emblem Represent?
The redesigned emblem incorporates several elements representing national pride, truth, justice, excellence and the geographical identity of Uttarakhand.
The key elements of the new emblem include:
- Ashoka Pillar: Represents national pride and authority.
- ‘Satyamev Jayate’: Symbolises truth and justice.
- Golden Laurel Wreath: Represents excellence and achievement.
- Himalayas: Reflect the state’s distinctive geographical identity.
- River: Represents Uttarakhand’s natural heritage.
The earlier police flag, which featured three horizontal colours, has been replaced with a new flag featuring a deep blue background. The redesigned flag carries the new police emblem at its centre, along with red and golden borders.
The formation signs, insignia and crests used on the uniforms of police officers and personnel have also been redesigned in accordance with the new emblem.
New Motto ‘Karm Satyam Shauryam’ Replaces ‘Mitra, Seva, Suraksha’
The new Uttarakhand Police motto, ‘Karm Satyam Shauryam’, uses three Sanskrit words to convey the core values of the police force:
- Karm: Duty and commitment to responsibilities.
- Satyam: Truth and integrity.
- Shauryam: Courage and bravery.
The earlier motto, ‘Mitra, Seva, Suraksha’, had been associated with Uttarakhand Police since the formation of the state. The new phrase is intended to reinforce the values of duty, honesty and courage among police officers and personnel.
Ceremonial Uniform Also Gets a New Look
Along with the flag and emblem, Uttarakhand Police has introduced a redesigned ceremonial uniform.
The traditional khaki attire will now feature a multicoloured ceremonial sash, decorations and distinctive parade accessories. The changes have been made to give the ceremonial uniform a more formal and distinguished appearance while retaining its traditional khaki identity.
Police personnel will participate in the November 6 parade wearing the new ceremonial uniform during the programme marking the presentation of the President’s Police Colour.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Welcomes New Police Identity
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami congratulated Uttarakhand Police officers and personnel on the introduction of the new symbols and insignia.
He said the changes were not merely about redesigning the flag, emblem or uniform but also about strengthening the police force’s traditions of valour, discipline and dedication to duty.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the new symbols should also remind police personnel of their responsibilities. He said the real value of the new identity would be reflected in sensitivity towards citizens, efficiency in functioning and impartiality in police action.
Dhami also highlighted the importance of the new motto, ‘Karm Satyam Shauryam’, and said every police officer and personnel must incorporate the principles of duty, truth and courage into their conduct and working style.
He further said that respect for the uniform is strengthened through conduct, while public trust is built through service.
CM Highlights Smart Policing and Modernisation
The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continuous efforts are being made to realise the vision of smart policing across the country. He added that modernising Uttarakhand Police through advanced technology, improved training and greater professional efficiency remains a priority for the state government.

He said the occasion serves as a reminder of the values of national unity, discipline, dedication to duty and service to the nation.
Amit Shah to Present President’s Police Colour on November 6
Chief Minister Dhami said it was a matter of pride for Uttarakhand that Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah would confer the prestigious President’s Police Colour on the state police on November 6. The programme will also feature a parade by Uttarakhand Police personnel in their newly designed ceremonial uniforms.
The President’s Police Colour is a prestigious recognition of a police force’s service and contribution. The upcoming ceremony will mark an important occasion for Uttarakhand Police as it adopts its new identity.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the force would establish new standards in public service, discipline, efficiency and dedication with its renewed identity.
Uttarakhand Police Flag Was First Unveiled in 2008
The earlier Uttarakhand Police flag was unveiled on April 4, 2008. The police force had received its original emblem and the motto ‘Mitra, Seva, Suraksha’ on November 9, 2000, following the formation of Uttarakhand as a separate state.
With changing security challenges and growing responsibilities, the state government decided to redesign the force’s symbols and insignia. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami approved the new identity on October 21, 2026.
The latest changes mark a significant update to the visual identity of Uttarakhand Police, covering its flag, emblem, motto, uniform and ceremonial insignia.
