AYUSH Villages in Every District
A significant step towards this goal is the development of one AYUSH village model in each district of Uttarakhand. These villages will serve as hubs for Ayurveda-based treatments, yoga, and holistic wellness, promoting natural healthcare practices among the rural population. The government is also in the process of setting up new yoga and wellness centres across the state.
“Not Just a Document, But a Vision”
Describing the Ayurveda policy roadmap, Mr. Dhami said, “This is not just a document but the essence of knowledge, experience and deep deliberation, which will play an important role in setting the direction of research, policy-making, and public health in the field of Ayurveda in the coming years.”
Ayurveda’s Global Recognition
Mr. Dhami highlighted the importance of the World Ayurveda Congress and Expo Mart, stating that it provided a global platform to showcase the potential of Ayurveda. “We were successful in conveying the message of ‘Sarve Santu Niramayah’—may all be free from illness—a core tenet of Sanatan Hindu culture, to the world,” he said.
Appreciation for Scientific Temper Among Youth
The Chief Minister also praised the Vigyan Vidyarthi Manthan, an initiative of Vigyan Bharti aimed at fostering scientific curiosity, innovation, and research orientation among students. He called it “a comprehensive campaign to make the future generation curious, aware, and responsible citizens.”
“Ayurveda: A Gift to Humanity”
Mr. Dhami described Ayurveda as a “unique medical system” that goes beyond treating physical ailments to address internal disorders of the mind and senses. “Due to its holistic approach, Ayurveda’s global acceptance is rising rapidly. It is the most valuable gift given to humanity,” he said.
Uttarakhand’s Rich Ayurvedic Heritage
Calling Uttarakhand ‘Devbhoomi’, or the land of the gods, Mr. Dhami noted that the state has been a centre of Ayurvedic wisdom and medicinal plant diversity for centuries. “The medicinal herbs found in our mountainous regions have played a vital role in making Ayurveda the foundation of health,” he said, underlining the importance of hosting such events in the state.
National Support for Traditional Medicine
He also acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of AYUSH, formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, in bringing global recognition to India’s ancient medical sciences. “It is a matter of pride that Ayurveda is receiving a new identity on the international stage,” Mr. Dhami added.
Launch of Publications and Honours
During the event, the Chief Minister released a coffee table book by the AYUSH Department and launched the poster for Vigyan Bharti’s Vigyan Vidyarthi Manthan competition. He also honoured several individuals for their contributions to the promotion of Ayurveda.
This renewed focus on Ayurveda in Uttarakhand marks a significant step towards blending traditional knowledge with modern public health systems, while simultaneously creating new opportunities for wellness tourism and rural development.
