Vikas Kaushal has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). Notably, he is believed to have taken an 80% pay cut to assume this role. His appointment was approved in relaxation of eligibility criteria, as per an order dated March 6.
A seasoned leader with over 30 years of experience in energy, oil and gas, and power sectors, Kaushal holds a chemical engineering degree from Panjab University and an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. He was twice elected to Kearney’s Global Board of Directors, serving two full terms and chairing its Finance, Audit, and Governance Committees. He also served as Managing Director and Country Head for Kearney India for five years.
Kaushal has been a consultant to major energy companies like HPCL, Indian Oil, BPCL, and GAIL. He spearheaded a five-year digital transformation at Indian Oil, making it a consistent award-winner for Best Digital Oil Company.
