Nagpur: In a landmark initiative for mining safety, Mines Rescue Station (MRS), Nagpur, operated by Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), has become the first rescue station in India to provide Advanced Rope Rescue Training. This achievement was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Allied Safety Equipment (Petzl) on 26th March 2026.
The collaboration aims to establish a Centre of Excellence at MRS Nagpur, focused on enhancing the skills and preparedness of rescue personnel in the mining sector.
Centre of Excellence for Advanced Rope Rescue
Under this MoU, MRS Nagpur will develop a dedicated Centre of Excellence to provide specialized training across multiple rope rescue modules. The training is designed to equip rescue teams with the latest techniques, tools, and safety protocols essential for mining emergencies.
Dinesh Bisen, General Manager (Safety & Rescue), WCL, said, “This MoU with Allied Safety is a landmark initiative that will strengthen India’s mining rescue capabilities. The Centre of Excellence will provide advanced rope rescue training, ensuring our teams are equipped with the latest techniques and safety protocols.”
The program will help raise safety standards and prepare personnel for challenging rescue operations, setting a new benchmark for the mining industry nationwide.
