West Bengal – In a key administrative reshuffle in West Bengal, two senior IAS officers have been given significant new assignments aimed at strengthening urban governance and environmental planning in the state.
Aditi Chaudhary Appointed Commissioner of Asansol Municipal Corporation
Aditi Chaudhary, a 2014-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Asansol Municipal Corporation. She will also hold the additional charge of Chief Executive Officer of the Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA).
Prior to this posting, she was serving as Special Secretary in the Women & Child Development and Social Welfare Department. Known for her efficient handling of welfare schemes and administrative clarity, her new urban governance role in one of Bengal’s major municipal regions comes at a time when both infrastructure and development push are high on the state’s agenda.
Her dual responsibility will involve overseeing the civic affairs of Asansol while simultaneously supervising planned development under ADDA’s jurisdiction — a crucial portfolio encompassing both urban expansion and regulatory planning.

Saurav Pahari Returns from Deputation to Take Over as Director of Wetland Institute
Meanwhile, senior IAS officer Saurav Pahari of the 2008 batch (West Bengal cadre) has been appointed as the Director of the Institute of Environmental Studies & Wetland Management (IESWM), West Bengal.
Mr. Pahari returns from his central deputation, where he was serving as Deputy Chairperson of the Tea Board of India in Kolkata. The premature repatriation marks his re-entry into state service, with a focus now on environmental governance and wetland sustainability — critical themes for a state with vast ecological diversity.
His extensive administrative experience, combined with his exposure to policymaking at the central level, is expected to significantly contribute to the IESWM’s ongoing mission to conserve and manage the state’s wetland ecosystems and promote scientific research in environmental policy.
