CM Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government on Tuesday appointed 2 IAS officers–Smaraki Mahapatra and Sanghamitra Ghosh as Joint Chief Electoral Officer and Additional Chief Electoral Officer respectively. The development comes ahead of the visit of the Election Commission officials to Bengal before assembly elections.
Sanghamitra Ghosh is a Bengal cadre IAS officer of 1997-batch and currently posted as Secretary, Women and Child Development and Social Welfare department. Smaraki Mahapatra is a 2002-batch IAS officer currently working as Secretary in the state Finance department with the additional responsibility of the director of West Bengal Highway Development Corporation. The officers have been asked to join their new post immediately.
