New Delhi: The Government of India on Thursday announced a key diplomatic appointment, naming Dr. Hifzur Rahman—currently serving as India’s Ambassador to the Republic of Chad—as the next Ambassador of India to the State of Libya.
The appointment comes as New Delhi looks to strengthen its diplomatic and strategic presence in North Africa, particularly in regions undergoing political transitions and economic recovery.
India’s First Resident Ambassador to Chad Now Moves to Libya
Dr. Rahman has been serving as India’s first resident Ambassador to Chad since May 1, 2023, where he played a major role in establishing a full resident mission and deepening bilateral engagement.
Prior to this, he held several strategic roles that shaped India’s diplomatic outreach across the Middle East, North Africa, and Latin American regions.
Distinguished Diplomatic Career Spanning Over Two Decades
A seasoned diplomat, Dr. Rahman joined the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on June 1, 2001 and has since held a series of high-profile positions both at headquarters and in Indian missions abroad.
