Raipur/New Delhi: Chhattisgarh cadre IAS officer Deepak Soni of the 2011 batch has been called to the central government for a prestigious deputation as Director in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. His exemplary work in Naxal-affected districts, particularly Dantewada, has transformed the lives of hundreds of tribal women, earning him national recognition.
From District Collector to Central Deputation
Deepak Soni, a 2011 batch IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, is currently serving as the District Collector of Baloda Bazar. Originally from Durg district, he has held important administrative positions in Raipur, Surajpur, Dantewada, Kondagaon, and Baloda Bazar.
The Government of India has issued an order for his central deputation as Director in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with a tenure of five years. The Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh has been instructed to relieve him immediately, after which he will assume his new responsibilities in Delhi.
Transforming Dantewada: The Dannex Garment Factory
One of IAS Deepak Soni’s most notable contributions came during his tenure in Naxal-affected Dantewada, where he established the Dannex Garment Factory, a Rs 30 crore project providing employment to approximately 750 underprivileged tribal women.
The factory was specifically aimed at empowering women, including families of surrendered Naxalites, and promoting economic self-reliance in a region historically affected by conflict. The brand “DANNEX”, short for “Dantewada Next,” has gained national recognition, with major companies collaborating for business expansion.
Soni’s efforts in Dantewada extended beyond economic empowerment. He personally reached remote villages on his motorcycle, engaging directly with residents, facilitating education, healthcare, and basic amenities, while maintaining administrative oversight in a challenging security environment. His work in the district is widely regarded as a “Development Model in Naxal Areas.”
Achievements Across Chhattisgarh
Deepak Soni’s administrative excellence has not been limited to Dantewada. In Kondagaon district, he successfully implemented development schemes, promoting administrative transparency, public participation, and efficient governance.
In Baloda Bazar, Soni is recognized for his strict yet sensitive working style, focusing on results-driven administration. His contributions to water conservation earned him a national award, highlighting his commitment to sustainable development and citizen welfare.
A Well-Deserved Central Role
Soni’s appointment as Director in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is seen as a major achievement for the Chhattisgarh cadre. His extensive experience working directly with marginalized communities and implementing innovative, ground-level administrative solutions will now play a crucial role in shaping and executing national-level health policies and schemes.
Government sources highlight that Soni’s field-based approach, focus on empowerment, and innovative administrative solutions make him a perfect candidate to bridge policy-making and on-ground implementation at the central level.
