Ms. Vandana Rao, a 2015-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been transferred and appointed as the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of West Delhi. Until now, she was serving as Deputy Commissioner in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Born on September 2, 1990, in Kangan Heri village, Najafgarh, Delhi, Ms. Rao holds a B.Tech in Computer Science from Kurukshetra University and a Master’s in Personnel Management. She left a corporate career to pursue civil services, securing an impressive All India Rank of 4 in the 2015 UPSC Civil Services Examination in her third attempt.
Over the years, Ms. Rao has held several key administrative roles. She began her service as Deputy Commissioner of Karol Bagh Zone, later moving to City-SP Zone under MCD. Her work in urban governance, particularly in addressing Delhi’s plastic waste challenges, has been widely acknowledged.
Apart from her administrative responsibilities, she serves on the advisory board of the Adhyayan Quality Education Foundation, contributing to educational initiatives across the country. She is married to Mr. Hemant Kumar, a 2013-batch IAS officer of the Nagaland cadre.
Ms. Vandana Rao’s journey from a village in Delhi to a senior bureaucratic position is a testament to her dedication and commitment to public service.
