Senior IPS officer Mr. Deepam Seth has recently been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttarakhand. A 1995-batch IPS officer from the Uttarakhand cadre, Mr. Seth is currently serving as the Additional Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Mr. Seth previously held roles such as Additional Superintendent of Police in Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar during his tenure in undivided Uttar Pradesh. He also served as the City Superintendent of Police in Agra.
After the formation of Uttarakhand, Mr. Seth held several key positions, including Senior Superintendent of Police in Nainital, Additional Secretary (Home), Inspector General of Provincial Armed Constabulary, and Inspector General of Law and Order.
Last year, the senior IPS officer was posted as the Inspector General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police in Chandigarh on central deputation.
He will assume charge from acting DGP Mr. Abhinav Kumar, who has been serving in the role since November 2023.
Originally allocated to the Uttar Pradesh cadre in 1996, Mr. Kumar opted for the Uttarakhand cadre after the state’s creation in 2000. However, he was retained in the Uttar Pradesh cadre, a decision he contested through legal means. In October, Mr. Kumar objected to his exclusion from the Uttarakhand government’s DGP panel sent to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
