The Bhupendrabhai Patel led Gujarat government has announced the appointment of 1993 batch IPS officer Hasmukh Patel as the new Chairman of the Gujarat Public Service Commission. The decision was formalized in a notification released by the General Administration Department.
According to the notification, “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 316 of the Constitution of India, Shri Hasmukh Patel, IPS is appointed as Chairman, Gujarat Public Service Commission, Gandhinagar, with effect from the date he takes over charge of the office.” He will take charge from November 11.
Currently serving as a Director General of Police (DGP) rank officer, Mr Patel has held key positions, including Chairman of the Gujarat Police Recruitment Board and Managing Director of the Gujarat Police Housing Corporation Limited.
Hailing from Banaskantha district of Gujarat, Mr Patel is a seasoned Gujarat cadre IPS officer with a distinguished career marked by various pivotal roles. As Superintendent of Police, he has managed critical responsibilities in Prohibition across Surat, Porbandar, Valsad, and Bhavnagar Railway. His tenure also includes key positions as DIG and IGP, overseeing the Surat Range, Gandhinagar Range, the Anti-Corruption Bureau, and the State Monitoring Cell.
Patel is recognized for his multi-faceted administrative capabilities and extensive experience, which have established him as a highly competent officer. His proactive engagement on social media, particularly in addressing candidates’ queries and ensuring transparency in the recruitment process, has endeared him to the youth, fostering deep trust and respect among them.
Hasmukh Patel’s tenure as GPSC Chairman is set for 2 years and 8 months. Prior to assuming this role, he will need to resign from his current position in the police service.
Last year, Mr Patel navigated significant challenges, including a paper leak incident, and managed to successfully conduct recruitment examinations, reaffirming his reputation as a capable and trustworthy leader. In addition to addressing the paper leak issue, Patel efficiently oversaw the Lok Rakshak Dal (LRD) examination, demonstrating his commitment to maintaining the integrity of the recruitment process. His diligent efforts and honest working style have helped restore candidates’ faith in the system, earning him widespread praise as an efficient and reliable officer.
This appointment is expected to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the commission, as it undertakes the crucial task of recruiting and selecting candidates for various public services in the state.
