Yamunanagar: In a swift administrative move to tackle rising crime, the Haryana government has appointed IPS officer Kamaldeep Goyal as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Yamunanagar, replacing Surender Singh Bhoria, who served in the role for less than three months.
The decision comes amid growing concern over a spike in extortion-related firing incidents in Yamunanagar and nearby towns, particularly targeting traders involved in the liquor business, plywood industry, travel agencies, and commission agents.
Crime Surge Forces Leadership Change
The SP-level reshuffle follows over five firing incidents in the past three months, sparking panic in the industrial town. Just on Monday night, two separate incidents of firing were reported within a span of 30 minutes, amplifying fears among local business owners and residents.
Past incidents include attacks on immigration centres in Bilaspur and Jagadhari, as well as liquor vends in Jagadhri and Yamunanagar. These developments have reportedly led to a sharp decline in participation during recent liquor zone auctions, with many zones remaining unsold due to security fears.

Goyal Reassigned Amid Growing Security Concerns
Kamaldeep Goyal, a 2014-batch IPS officer, previously served as Yamunanagar SP from 2020 to 2022 and was currently posted as Assistant Inspector General (AIG) – Provisioning (HQ), Panchkula. His return to Yamunanagar is seen as a strategic move, leveraging his prior experience and familiarity with the district’s crime dynamics.
Sources in the state home department said Goyal’s reinstatement is expected to reassure traders and restore public confidence, especially with his proven track record in the region.
Bhoria Awaiting New Posting
The outgoing SP, Surender Singh Bhoria, also from the 2014 IPS batch, was appointed to the Yamunanagar post on April 25, 2025, and has now been relieved. No new posting has been allotted to him yet. According to the Home Department, a separate order will be issued regarding his next assignment.
Traders Demand Stronger Security Measures
The wave of criminal intimidation has rattled local business communities, particularly in Jagadhari, Bilaspur, and Yamunanagar. A trader association member told reporters, “There’s a climate of fear. With daily firing and extortion threats, business has become dangerous. We hope SP Goyal takes strict action against these criminal gangs.”
