The Government expressed confidence that it will meet its coal production target of over 170 million tonnes from captive and commercial coal blocks in the current fiscal year.

From April 1st to November, production from these mines rose 33% to 100.08 million tonnes (MT), compared to 75.05 MT during the same period last year, according to the Coal Ministry. Meanwhile, total coal dispatch from these mines increased to 107.81 MT from 80.23 MT.

The Ministry remains optimistic about reaching the 170 million tonne target for 2024-25, citing the growing contribution of captive and commercial coal mines to India’s overall coal production. This reflects the success of ongoing reforms in the coal sector, bolstering the nation’s energy self-sufficiency.
