The Union Government’s Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued a notification promoting eight Rajasthan Police Service (RPS) officers to the prestigious Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre.
The officers promoted include Kelaram, Lokesh Sonwal, and Gordhanlal Sonkaria from the 1997 batch, alongside Ratan Singh, Mahaveer Singh Ranawat, Pyarelal Shivran, Satveer Singh, and Satnam Singh from the 1998 batch.
Earlier this month, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) convened a selection committee meeting in New Delhi to finalize these promotions. Key officials at the meeting included Rajasthan Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Anand Kumar, and Director General of Police (DGP) UR Sahoo.
The state police service had forwarded a list of 24 senior RPS officers to compete for eight IPS vacancies for the year 2023. Initially, RPS officer Piyush Dixit was in line for promotion as the eighth candidate. However, a revision in the seniority list brought Lokesh Sonwal into the top eight, pushing Dixit to ninth place and out of this year’s selections.
The promotion is a significant milestone for the eight officers, marking a new chapter in their careers as part of the elite IPS cadre.
