Neyveli: NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Coal, marked the 11th International Day of Yoga with massive enthusiasm, aligning with the national theme: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” The event saw 10,000 participants gather at Bharathi Stadium and other locations across Neyveli to perform yoga, symbolising a commitment to wellness, sustainability, and unity.
Leadership Participation and Coal Ministry Support
The initiative was conducted in line with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi, and under the strategic guidance of Union Minister for Coal & Mines Mr G. Kishan Reddy, and Minister of State Satish Chandra Dubey. The event aimed to celebrate a decade of Yoga Day, observed annually since its UN declaration in 2015.
Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLCIL, led the grand celebration at Bharathi Stadium by participating in the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session, joined by Functional Directors:
- Dr. Suresh Chandra Suman, Director (Mines) & P&P (AC)
- Samir Swarup, Director (HR)
- M. Venkatachalam, Director (Power)
The event also witnessed participation from senior officials, employees, trade unions, welfare associations, students, and yoga enthusiasts from Neyveli and across NLCIL’s project sites.
A Pan-NLCIL Yoga Movement
Beyond the main venue at Bharathi Stadium, mass yoga demonstrations were also held at:
- NLCIL industrial units
- Various schools in Neyveli
- Offsite project locations
In all, around 1,000 participants outside Neyveli also joined the observance, making it a Pan-NLCIL celebration.
CMD’s Address and Vision for Wellness
Welcoming the gathering, Mr Samir Swarup, Director (HR), introduced the theme and importance of the event. Addressing the crowd, CMD Shri Motupalli highlighted that Neyveli’s 10,000-strong yoga gathering was the largest among all coal companies.
He emphasized that yoga is a unifying force, bringing peace to the mind and strength to the body, and encouraged NLCIL employees to integrate yoga into daily routines to remain agile, both physically and mentally. He tied the wellness initiative to the company’s larger vision of achieving 20 GW power generation capacity by 2030.
Tree Plantation & Awareness Campaigns
In a symbolic gesture of harmony, Motupalli planted an Asoka tree sapling near the stadium after the yoga session. The day also included:
- A 7-day Yoga Bootcamp organised by the Education, Sports & Culture Department of NLCIL
- Public yoga seminars promoting awareness and healthy lifestyle practices
- An extensive social media campaign in coordination with the Ministry of Coal
Continuing a Proud Tradition
Since the UN’s declaration of June 21 as International Yoga Day, NLCIL has celebrated the day every year with full vigour. This year’s edition stood out due to its scale, community participation, and commitment to a sustainable and healthy future.
The event underscored NLCIL’s dedication to employee welfare, national wellness goals, and environmental responsibility, reinforcing its role as a socially responsible PSU.
