Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday met trainee officers of the Indian Police Service (IPS) 2023 and 2024 batches at his official residence, sharing guidance on becoming effective, citizen-focused, and disciplined police officers. The interaction focused on strengthening law and order, community engagement, and adapting to modern crime challenges.

Training Period as a Learning Opportunity

During the formal meeting with 23 trainee officers, CM Yogi highlighted the importance of utilizing the probationary period to develop practical skills and a comprehensive policing model. “Uttar Pradesh, being a vast state, presents unique challenges for policing. The training phase is a golden opportunity to learn, understand, and strengthen your approach,” he said. He advised trainees to closely observe and understand police station administration, duty management, local disputes, and investigation processes, emphasizing that a police station forms the foundation of effective policing.

Citizen-Centric and Dignified Engagement

CM Yogi stressed that communication with public representatives should be conducted with dignity and composure. “Casual approaches are inappropriate for police officers. Elected representatives are the voice of the people, and coordinating with them enhances law-and-order effectiveness,” he noted. He also emphasized human intelligence, field presence, and building public trust as critical elements of strong policing.

Focus on Modern Crime and Technology

Highlighting the evolving nature of crime, the Chief Minister called for vigilance against offenses targeting women, cybercrime, and illegal drug networks. He urged trainees to stay technologically adept, recommending the use of digital forensics, cyber tools, and other modern techniques to respond effectively to fast-changing crime patterns.

Ethics, Discipline, and Human Perspective

CM Yogi further stressed that integrity, discipline, and a human-centered perspective are the most valuable assets for any police officer. “Your conduct will shape law and order in the coming years while strengthening public trust and the security framework of the state,” he said. He also emphasized the need for coordination among police stations, circles, and police lines, stating that synergy across all three levels is essential for robust district-level security.

Building a Strong Police Force for the Future

The Chief Minister encouraged trainees to view their role as first responders seriously, noting that prompt action, appropriate communication, and prioritization determine public confidence in police services. He concluded by highlighting the importance of practical learning in the field, fostering cooperation with local communities, and ensuring that police work remains responsive, ethical, and citizen-focused.
