Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Ashok Leyland Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Lucknow, in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Sector Undertakings H.D. Kumaraswamy. The event marked a significant milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s journey toward industrialization, technological advancement, and electric mobility adoption.
The state-of-the-art plant has been constructed on approximately 70 acres in the Sarojini Nagar area. It will manufacture electric buses, e-travelers, and e-loading vehicles, supporting the development of sustainable transport infrastructure in the state. After inaugurating the facility, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a ride in one of the newly manufactured e-buses, highlighting the operational readiness of the vehicles.
UP Emerges as Top Investment Destination
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that Uttar Pradesh has transformed over the past eight years from a state with “unlimited potential” to one that turns potential into results. He highlighted that Uttar Pradesh has become the top choice for investors, not only within India but globally. According to the Chief Minister, proposals worth ₹45 lakh crore have already been received for investments across various sectors in the state.
He further noted that the development of infrastructure, including expressways—55% of which are now in Uttar Pradesh—and ongoing rapid rail projects, along with support for 18,000 startups, has created an environment conducive to industrial growth and innovation.

Support for Electric Mobility and Carbon Reduction
Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy appreciated the initiative, stating that the plant is a major step toward Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) and advancing electric mobility. He emphasized that the facility also contributes to India’s carbon emission reduction targets, aligning with national sustainability goals.
Rajnath Singh Hails UP’s Governance and Industrial Growth
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his governance, stating that UP’s rating can now be considered “excellent.” He highlighted that the Ashok Leyland EV plant is a milestone in the state’s industrialization efforts. He noted that, historically, Uttar Pradesh was associated with poor law and order, but today it has become a hub for investment and employment, providing jobs for local youth.
Rajnath Singh also mentioned the ongoing BrahMos missile production in Uttar Pradesh, stating that the state is actively contributing to India’s self-reliance in defense manufacturing. He congratulated the Chief Minister for the state’s significant progress in law and order, infrastructure, and industrial development.
