Varanasi: In a significant move aimed at improving the lives of sanitation workers, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made a major announcement during the Swachhata Mitra Samman Samaroh held at Saroj Palace in Ramkatora, Varanasi. He declared that sanitation workers across the state will now receive a direct monthly salary ranging from ₹16,000 to ₹20,000 in their bank accounts, putting an end to exploitation and ensuring transparency.
Direct Salary Transfer to Prevent Exploitation of Sanitation Workers
Addressing the gathering of sanitation workers and officials, CM Yogi stated firmly that the era of exploitation is over. “No one will be able to exploit sanitation workers anymore. The government will ensure that ₹16,000 to ₹20,000 is directly credited into their bank accounts every month,” he announced.
This move comes as part of the state’s ongoing effort to recognize the hard work of sanitation workers who contribute to public health and cleanliness, often underappreciated and underpaid.
Free Healthcare Up to ₹5 Lakh Through Ayushman Card for All Sanitation Workers
In addition to the salary hike and direct benefit transfer, CM Yogi also announced that all sanitation workers will be provided with Ayushman Bharat Health Cards. These cards will enable them and their families to receive free medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh annually.
Highlighting the health risks associated with sanitation work, the CM said, “Those who work for everyone’s health should themselves be protected. That’s why the government will ensure each sanitation worker receives an Ayushman Card, allowing them access to quality healthcare.”
Emotional Appeal for Diwali: Sweets and Lights for Every Poor Household
Taking a moment to speak about the upcoming festival of Diwali, CM Yogi made an emotional appeal to the public and authorities alike. He urged that this Diwali should only be considered meaningful if every sanitation worker and every poor family receives sweets and has a lit lamp in their home.
“This is true social harmony,” he said. “It’s our duty to ensure that no one is left behind during the celebrations.” He also criticized opposition parties, particularly the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, saying, “They focus on dividing society, while we are here to unite it.”
Rose Petal Shower and Emotional Moments Win Hearts of Sanitation Workers
Before and after the announcement, CM Yogi took a heartwarming step by personally showering rose petals on the sanitation workers present at the event, symbolizing the respect and honor the state now wishes to bestow upon them. The gesture was met with emotional reactions from many in the crowd, who felt seen and valued like never before.
“For the first time in our lives, we feel respected. This is more than just a salary or a card – this is dignity,” said one sanitation worker emotionally.
A Game-Changing Announcement for Grassroots Workers
With these announcements, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to bring structural change to the working conditions of sanitation workers – improving their income, healthcare access, and social recognition. The initiative is expected to directly benefit thousands of workers across the state.
By ensuring fair wages, health security, and societal dignity, the Yogi Adityanath government is making sanitation work not just a job of necessity, but one of honor.
