Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the 6th Uttar Pradesh Agricultural Science Congress-2026, highlighting a comprehensive and futuristic vision for the state’s agriculture sector. The three-day event emphasized innovation, technology adoption, and strategies to enhance farmer prosperity across the state.
From Production to Prosperity: CM’s Vision for Agriculture
CM Yogi stressed that the future of agriculture lies in moving “from production to productivity, from productivity to profitability, and from profitability to prosperity.” He highlighted that increasing production alone is insufficient; the focus must also be on sustainable and profitable agriculture to make Indian farmers self-reliant and prosperous.
He also urged that Uttar Pradesh is ready to play a leading role in this transformative journey, despite limited agricultural land supporting a large population.

Exceptional Performance Amid Limited Resources
The Chief Minister acknowledged that Uttar Pradesh, home to 16–17% of India’s population but only 11% of arable land, contributes 21% of the country’s total food production. The state has successfully increased the agricultural growth rate from 8% to nearly 18%, showcasing effective policies and farmers’ efforts.
He emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of India’s economic strength, and historical self-reliant farming practices need revival to ensure both farmer welfare and economic stability.
Technology-Driven Agricultural Transformation
CM Yogi highlighted modern technology as a key driver for agricultural reform, including:
- Internet of Things (IoT) and AI for crop monitoring and real-time analysis
- Drones for precise application of fertilizers and pesticides
- Satellite technology for land and weather monitoring
- Biotechnology for climate-resilient and high-yield crops
He stressed that natural farming offers long-term benefits by reducing costs while maintaining soil health and environmental balance.

Digital Platforms Connecting Farmers to Markets
The Chief Minister lauded digital agriculture platforms that provide farmers with real-time market, weather, and price information. Initiatives like ‘One Nation-One Mandi’ and reduction of mandi fees have helped farmers secure better prices.
The concept of “Land is Lab” replaces the traditional “Lab to Land” approach, encouraging farmers and scientists to experiment and innovate directly in the fields.
Landmark Reforms in Sugarcane Sector
CM Yogi highlighted significant reforms in the sugarcane sector:
- 107 out of 122 sugar mills now pay farmers within 6–7 days
- UP contributes 55% of the country’s total sugarcane production
- Ethanol production ranks number one in India
- Over ₹3.15 lakh crore paid to farmers via DBT
- 85–86% of farmland is now irrigated, including solar-powered irrigation systems
Large-scale irrigation projects like the Saryu Canal National Project have expanded coverage to 14 lakh hectares, benefiting farmers significantly.
Farmer Safety and Disaster Management
The state ensures rapid relief measures during natural disasters. Under the CM Farmer Accident Insurance Scheme, assistance is provided within 24 hours. Advanced early warning systems help minimize crop and property losses due to natural calamities.
Recognizing Agricultural Excellence
During the congress, CM Yogi awarded the Uttar Pradesh Agricultural Scientist Awards 2025-26, honoring 15 leading scientists and 30 outstanding performers of 2025. Awards included:
- Lifetime Achievement Award: Dr. Satyaprakash, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology, Meerut
- Distinguished Scientists in Agriculture, Biotechnology, Horticulture, Livestock, and Social Sciences
- Young Scientist Awards
- Best PhD Thesis Awards

Special recognitions were also given to innovators in landscape restoration, organic farming, and sustainable agriculture practices.

A Transformative Path for Uttar Pradesh Agriculture
CM Yogi reiterated that agriculture must be farmer-centric, technology-driven, and integrated with markets. The event aims to create a strong ecosystem connecting scientists, institutions, startups, and farmers.
He emphasized that with coordinated efforts, Uttar Pradesh can achieve “Developed Agriculture – Developed India @ 2047”, making the state a model for sustainable and profitable farming across the country.
