The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has announced the promotion of 24 Provincial Police Service (PPS) officers to the Indian Police Service (IPS). Among those promoted, a husband-wife duo, Chiranjeev Nath Sinha and Rashmi Rani, stand out, as they both ascended to the IPS together.
Chiranjeev Nath Sinha, originally from Patna, Bihar, began his career as a PPS officer in the Uttar Pradesh Police in 1998. After earning a BA, MBA, and a Diploma in International Trade Management, he joined the police service and steadily rose through the ranks. He was promoted to Additional SP in 2014, and after further promotions, was serving as Additional SP Special Grade 1 in Barabanki before his elevation to IPS.
His wife, Rashmi Rani, hails from Prayagraj and holds an MA in Sanskrit. She joined the UP Police as a PPS officer in 1995 after passing the UPPSC exam. Like her husband, Rashmi was confirmed as a PPS officer in 2000. She became an Additional SP in 2014 and later advanced to Special Grade 1 in 2024. With their joint promotions, both Chiranjeev Nath Sinha and Rashmi Rani have now entered the prestigious ranks of the IPS.
