Divyanshu Nigam, a 2021 batch IAS officer, on Twitter shared the Collectors record of Tirunelveli district which goes back to the 17th century. Offices of civil servants all around the country have a display board where records of Collectors are written.
In the record board, the first person to serve as the Collector of Poligar Peshkash was Mr. Benjamin Torin who came in 1790. Mr. Nigam who is currently serving as the Assistant Collector of Madurai, while tweeting said, “What a legacy and what a rich history of record keeping.”
The tweet garnered more than 1.2 lakh views and has got more than 1500 likes. Many people have also commented on the tweet while giving more information about the records.
One follower of the officer, while replying to the tweet said, “The 1st collector Lusington was the one who had the nasty fight with freedom fighter Veerpandiya Kattabomman . Kattabomman is a National hero there .”
