International Mountains Day is celebrated on 11 December every year across the world. On the occasion, IFS officer Aishwarya Raj has called upon everyone to saveguard the mountains, the most formidable ecosystem. While sharing a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “The theme for this year is ‘restoring mountain ecosystems’. Dire need of the hour for one of the most vulnerable yet formidable ecosystems witnessing the impact of climate change & global warming.”

Let it be noted that the United Nations General Assembly designated 11 December “International Mountain Day” on 2003. It is observed every year to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life, to highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development and to build alliances that will bring positive change to mountain peoples and environments around the world.
