A peaceful riverside picnic turned into a scene of panic and chaos when a wild elephant suddenly wandered into the area, sending visitors fleeing for safety. Families relaxing near the scenic stream were caught off guard as the elephant emerged from the nearby forest, prompting many to abandon their food and belongings and scatter in all directions.

The dramatic incident, captured on video and shared on social media platform X by Indian Forest Service officer Mr. Parveen Kaswan (2015 batch), shows people frantically running while a few are chased by the elephant. Amid the commotion, a woman can be heard shouting, “Don’t run!” in an attempt to calm the situation.

Fortunately, the elephant did not harm anyone. After moving through the picnic spot and creating a brief scare, it was seen calmly crossing the shallow stream and retreating back into the forest. No injuries were reported.

Mr. Kaswan used the viral video, which has garnered over 1.5 lakh views, to highlight the risks of human encroachment into wildlife corridors. “Tell me whose mistake it is. Why choose a location for a picnic where elephants usually move? In search of beautiful locations, please don’t put life in danger,” he wrote in a cautionary message.

The video sparked a flurry of online reactions. Several users urged stricter regulations to protect both humans and wildlife. One user commented, “Why can’t the authorities declare such areas as no-entry zones?” Another added, “Animals behave more sensibly than some tourists.” A third quipped, “I’m with the elephant—imagine trying to use your space and finding it overrun by people.”

Some users even sided with the elephant, with one noting, “It’s the home of an elephant, not a place for humans.” Another stated, “Why are these areas open to the public if we care about human and animal life?” A comment read, “Let these majestic creations of God live in peace,” with another quipping, “Humans arrogantly believe they are the lords of the earth.”
