Addressing a public meeting in Muzaffarpur, Mr. Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, highlighted the remarkable progress the state has made over the past 20 years. Recalling the days when people were afraid to step out after dusk due to rampant lawlessness, Mr. Kumar emphasized the transformational journey from fear and conflict to peace and development. He remarked, “Our government has been engaged in development work for 20 years, but remember the situation under the government before us. People wouldn’t leave their homes after dusk. There was so much conflict in society. Education was in the same situation. There were very few roads, and very few homes had electricity.”
Today, he asserts, Bihar is a state marked by peace, brotherhood, and safety, underpinned by infrastructure growth and social harmony.
Economic Development and Employment: A Vision for One Crore Jobs
Looking ahead, Mr. Kumar outlined ambitious goals for Bihar’s economic future. He pointed to the significant strides made in employment generation, noting that the government has facilitated jobs for over 40 lakh people and provided government jobs to 50 lakh youth so far. With a clear focus on empowering Bihar’s young population, he set forth a target of creating employment opportunities for 1 crore youth in the next five years. This bold commitment underlines the government’s dedication to inclusive economic development and youth empowerment.
Empowering Women Through the Chief Minister’s Women’s Employment Scheme
A significant pillar of Mr. Kumar’s developmental agenda is the Chief Minister’s Women’s Employment Scheme, introduced recently in Muzaffarpur. Under this progressive initiative, each household is being supported by providing Rs. 10,000 to one woman to help start her own business. So far, 12.1 million women have benefited from this financial support, with scheduled dates for disbursing the remaining funds. The scheme further incentivizes successful entrepreneurs by offering an additional assistance of Rs. 2 lakh, encouraging sustainable self-employment and economic independence among women.
Bihar’s Developmental Outlook: Stability, Growth, and Inclusive Progress
Mr. Nitish Kumar’s reflections and plans signal a developmental trajectory focused on stability, infrastructure improvement, employment generation, and women’s empowerment. The overarching theme resonates with Bihar’s transition from a state grappling with insecurity to one promoting economic growth and social welfare. His vision for the future underscores the importance of continuity in governance and inclusive policies to ensure the state’s sustained development.
