Ahmedabad recently witnessed a prestigious felicitation ceremony honoring Parsi religious leaders, attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel. The event recognized the Parsi community’s long-standing contributions to India’s social, economic, and cultural development.
Chief Minister Lauds Parsi Spirit of Service and Philanthropy
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Patel highlighted the community’s “immense and invaluable contributions to nation-building,” emphasizing that generosity remains a defining virtue of Parsis. He praised their dedication, social responsibility, and commitment to public service, citing the integration of Parsi ancestors into Gujarat’s social fabric as seamless, “like sugar in milk.”
Event Organized by Ariz Khambatta Benevolent Trust
The celebration was organized by the Ariz Khambatta Benevolent Trust (AKBT), which works extensively in health, education, and social welfare. Founder Trustee Mr. Piruz Khambatta noted that the event embodies Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision of “Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi” (development with heritage preservation).
Scholarship Announced to Support Young Parsi Scholars
During the ceremony, the AKBT announced a new scholarship to encourage young Parsis pursuing religious studies. The trust also continues its support for communities in need, including people living with HIV, reflecting its broader commitment to social welfare.
Celebrating Iconic Parsi Contributions
Mr. Patel paid tribute to legendary Parsi figures such as Madam Bhikhaiji Cama, Homi Bhabha, and Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, along with business dynasties like Tata, Wadia, and Godrej. He noted that these figures played defining roles in shaping modern India through industry, science, education, defence, and civic leadership.
Cultural Programs Connect Youth With Traditions
The two-day celebration included theatre, music, and comedy performances, aimed at connecting younger generations with Parsi traditions. Leaders, high priests, and representatives of community organizations from across India attended the event, showcasing the community’s enduring influence despite its small population.
