Gujarat’s widely praised SWAGAT Online Programme continues to stand out as a powerful governance tool, resolving long-standing issues in remote regions with unprecedented speed and transparency. The latest example comes from Moddar village in Porbandar district, where a long-pending demand for a reliable road and bridge has finally been approved—bringing immense relief to nearly 1,200 residents.
Village Demand Reaches the Chief Minister Through SWAGAT
During a recent SWAGAT session, farmers led by Mr. Lakhman Moddara voiced their long-standing difficulty: the absence of a direct road and bridge connecting Moddar to Kutiyana. Currently, villagers travel almost 20 kilometres through four different villages, while over 100 farmers regularly cross a river using unsafe shortcuts.
Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel immediately recognized the urgency and developmental significance of the issue. In a decisive move, he sanctioned Rs. 9 crore for the construction of a minor bridge, a culvert and a three-kilometre road connecting Moddar and Pasvari villages.
Swift Approval Paves the Way for Critical Infrastructure
Officials granted in-principle approval for the entire project, instructing concerned departments to begin work quickly. For Moddar village, located in the challenging Ghed region where rivers overflow for eight months each year, this infrastructure upgrade is transformative.
The new road will remain operational year-round, eliminating the dependence on seasonal routes and risky river crossings. The decision follows earlier efforts by the Porbandar Collector during the District SWAGAT programme, where temporary obstructions were removed to reopen the old road. The bridge approval now marks a permanent, long-term solution.
Villagers Express Gratitude for Rapid Resolution
Villagers recalled with joy how the Chief Minister’s Office contacted them within just four days, confirming that Rs. 9 crore had been approved for their project. Mr. Rameshbhai Karangiya noted that the new road will serve as a lifeline—enabling students to reach schools safely, allowing farmers timely access to fields, and ensuring that patients can reach hospitals without delays.
Maldhari resident Mr. Ranabhai Katara said the villagers were deeply moved by the Chief Minister’s warm interaction and his understanding of their daily hardships.
A Model of Citizen-Centric Governance
The SWAGAT Online Programme, originally launched when Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi served as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, continues to evolve and expand under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel. The initiative stands firmly on the principle of “Nagrik Devo Bhava,” ensuring that citizens’ concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.
With Moddar’s issue resolved, the programme reaffirms its role in strengthening grassroots governance and accelerating rural development across Gujarat.
