The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department is gearing up to transform Sambhal into a leading destination for religious and heritage tourism. Known for its spiritual significance and rich cultural history, the historic city is home to several revered sites, most notably the 141-year-old Manokamna Temple.

The temple, recognized as the samadhi site of Sant Baba Ram Mani—a saint revered for his miraculous healing and humanitarian service—will undergo a major development initiative by the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC). A total of Rs. 171 lakh has been sanctioned for enhancing visitor amenities, preserving heritage structures, and positioning Sambhal as a major spiritual and tourist destination.

Government’s Vision for Sambhal

Mr. Jaiveer Singh, UP Tourism and Culture Minister, stated, “Sambhal is a land of faith, heritage, and ancient wisdom. The government is taking extensive steps to revive and beautify its spiritual and historical landmarks. The development of Manokamna Temple will not only enhance the experience for devotees but also strengthen local livelihoods through tourism.”

Manokamna Temple and Surrounding Heritage

The temple complex, spanning 20 bighas, houses shrines dedicated to Radha-Krishna, Lord Shiva, Hanuman, and Ram-Janaki, alongside the ancient Manokamna Kund. Local belief holds that bathing in the kund cured skin ailments and fulfilled wishes. Although the pond has dried due to falling groundwater levels, restoration of the kund is included in the redevelopment plans.

Constructed in 1884 by Mr. Nand Kishore and Mr. Ganeshilal, historical records indicate that around 100 bighas of land were donated to the temple over a century ago. Its intricate design, stairways, and surrounding shrines showcase the devotion and craftsmanship of its era.

Sambhal’s Spiritual Significance and Kalki Dham

Sambhal holds a unique place in Hindu tradition as the prophesied birthplace of Lord Vishnu’s tenth incarnation, the Kalki Avatar, destined to appear at the end of Kaliyuga to restore dharma and peace. The ongoing construction of Kalki Dham is attracting renewed attention to Sambhal, drawing devotees and tourists from across the country.

Other Attractions in Sambhal

Beyond Manokamna Temple, the city hosts notable landmarks such as Mata Kaila Devi Temple, the historic Clock Tower, and the Tota-Maina Tomb built by Prithviraj Chauhan. These sites, combined with upcoming projects, are poised to elevate Sambhal as a prominent hub for spiritual tourism in Uttar Pradesh.
