In a solemn yet forward-looking ceremony held at the Reserve Police Lines in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh marked Police Memorial Day with a significant commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their families. Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath led the tributes to martyred officers, emphasizing both remembrance and reform.
A Tribute Etched in Policy and Action
Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath paid heartfelt homage to the martyrs, stating that their sacrifice is an “invaluable asset” to the nation. The CM highlighted the enduring legacy of duty, discipline, and public service exemplified by police personnel, especially under challenging conditions.
“These bravehearts have set a standard that not only inspires but obliges us to do better for those who serve the state,” said Mr. Adityanath.
Commitment to Families of the Fallen
Three officers—STF Inspector Sunil Kumar, Head Constable Mr. Durgesh Kumar Singh from Jaunpur, and Constable Mr. Saurabh Kumar from Gautam Buddha Nagar—were honored for their ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty during 2024–25.
The Chief Minister reassured the bereaved families that the government remains steadfast in its mission to provide full support with “utmost sensitivity.” A massive Rs. 30.70 crore in financial assistance has already been extended to 96 personnel, including those from Central Forces and other states.
Financial Relief and Educational Support
In a comprehensive welfare update, Mr. Adityanath announced key figures:
- Rs. 11.85 crore reimbursed under medical reimbursements for 519 personnel
- Rs. 6.64 crore disbursed from the Life Saving Fund
- Rs. 67.76 crore paid to 124 dependents under the Bank of Baroda Police Salary Package
- Rs. 1.12 crore sanctioned for scholarships to children of 234 meritorious officers
- Rs. 51.10 lakh awarded in merit-based scholarships
Additionally, 2,511 GPF-related cases were cleared post-retirement or death, and financial advances were approved for 108 personnel.
Unprecedented Progress in Police Recruitment and Promotions
Marking a new era in police workforce development, the state government has recruited over 2.09 lakh personnel since 2017, including 34,000 women. More than 1.52 lakh promotions have been granted at gazetted levels, with recruitment underway for 28,154 new posts and promotions for another 2,391 roles.
“These figures reflect our commitment not just to memory, but to modernizing the force and empowering those who serve,” said Mr. Adityanath.

The CM also shared his sentiments on social media platform X, calling the police force’s service “a perfect example for society.” Deputy CM Mr. Keshav Prasad Maurya echoed the sentiment on Instagram, highlighting the inspiration drawn from the courage and sacrifice of police officers.
