Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath has instructed all District Magistrates across Uttar Pradesh to conduct a thorough assessment of damage caused to farmers’ crops by unseasonal rains. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of preparing detailed reports to ensure timely compensation and immediate relief funds for affected farmers.
Cyclone Montha Brings Heavy Rain and Temperature Drops
Over the past two days, several districts, including Purvanchal, experienced heavy rainfall and strong winds due to Cyclone Montha. Temperatures dropped 7-8 degrees below normal in many areas, compounding the difficulties for farmers. Continuous drizzle and waterlogging have damaged paddy, maize, vegetables, pulses, and oilseed crops, putting farmers’ livelihoods at risk.
Farmers Face Losses Despite Hard Work
In Amethi, intermittent rain for 48 hours has soaked paddy stored at the Osa market in Kosambi, reducing quality and complicating weighing processes. In Sonbhadra, harvested crops left in fields and barns are rotting due to waterlogging. Similar scenarios have been reported in Ballia, Farrukhabad, and other districts, leaving farmers distressed and demanding government support.
Relief Measures and Compensation Promised
The Chief Minister has assured that all affected farmers will receive compensation for their damaged crops. District administrations are instructed to prioritize relief efforts, evaluate losses, and provide immediate financial assistance. This proactive approach underscores the government’s commitment to protecting farmers’ livelihoods and sustaining agricultural development in Uttar Pradesh.
Looking Ahead: Strengthening Agricultural Resilience
Officials have been directed to assess infrastructure vulnerabilities in flood-prone areas and improve irrigation and drainage systems to prevent future losses. The Yogi government is also focusing on developing early warning systems and disaster preparedness to safeguard crops and ensure the state’s agricultural growth remains robust.
