The festival of Igas, deeply rooted in Uttarakhand’s folk traditions, was celebrated with immense enthusiasm at the official residence of Chief Minister Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami. The Chief Minister extended heartfelt greetings to the people of the state, describing the festival as a vibrant symbol of cultural identity, folk faith, and collective spirit.
During the grand celebration, Uttarakhand resonated with the melodies of traditional instruments and folk songs. Artists and cultural groups from across the state showcased their talent through traditional performances such as Harul, Jhumelo, Chanchari, Thadiya, and Jagar, transforming the evening into a mesmerizing celebration of Devbhoomi’s living heritage.
CM Dhami Emphasizes the Importance of Cultural Preservation
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Dhami said that Uttarakhand’s folk culture and traditions represent the state’s greatest heritage and collective pride. He emphasized that it is the shared responsibility of every citizen to preserve these traditions and pass them on to future generations.
The Chief Minister interacted warmly with folk artists, dignitaries, and guests, appreciating their efforts in keeping Uttarakhand’s cultural essence alive. He also played Bhelon, a traditional folk game, which added excitement among the elderly, youth, and children present at the event.
Honouring Folk Artists and Encouraging Culture-Based Employment
In his address, Mr. Dhami reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the welfare of folk artists and cultural development. He stated that the Uttarakhand government is continuously working to promote folk traditions, encourage culture-based employment, and create new opportunities for the state’s artists.
The Chief Minister honoured all participating artists and expressed that preserving this precious cultural heritage is essential to maintaining the state’s identity. He added that Uttarakhand’s costumes, cuisine, and customs are living reflections of the state’s harmony with nature and community life.
Strengthening Connection with Roots and Migrant Uttarakhandis
Appealing to all Uttarakhandis around the world, Mr. Dhami encouraged them to reconnect with their roots and actively participate in preserving their cultural heritage. He expressed happiness that many migrant Uttarakhandis now return to their ancestral homes to celebrate Igas with their families and communities.
He urged the global Uttarakhandi diaspora to celebrate such festivals in their hometowns and contribute to strengthening their cultural and emotional bond with their homeland.
A Vision for Development: “Resolve Without Option”
Linking culture with development, Mr. Dhami reiterated Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision that “the third decade belongs to Uttarakhand.” He said that this decade will mark holistic growth through employment generation, expansion of tourism, conservation of natural resources, and empowerment of the youth.
Calling upon citizens to contribute towards making Uttarakhand the best state in the country, he said, “We must all work together with the spirit of resolve without option and transform the Prime Minister’s vision into reality.”
The Chief Minister concluded by affirming that as Uttarakhand continues to honor its cultural heritage, it also strides confidently toward a future of inclusive growth, prosperity, and sustainable development.
