In a significant stride toward law enforcement and social reform, Chief Minister Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that over 9,000 acres of illegally occupied government land have been reclaimed across Uttarakhand. The announcement came during the inauguration of a new BJP office in Roorkee, where Mr. Dhami reaffirmed his government’s commitment to upholding law, curbing illegal encroachments, and protecting the cultural and demographic identity of the state.
These moves come as part of a larger framework aimed at ensuring transparency, rule of law, and equality in education and civil practices.
Reclaiming Public Land from Encroachment
Mr. Dhami highlighted the state’s efforts to reclaim public land from unauthorized occupation. “No one will be able to illegally occupy government land by merely placing colored sheets anymore,” he stated, referring to a practice used by encroachers to claim land informally.
According to official data, more than 9,000 acres have been freed from what the Chief Minister termed “land jihadis.” Additionally, over 500 unauthorized structures have been demolished, reinforcing the message of zero tolerance toward illegal encroachment.
Strict Action Against Illegal Madrasas and Impersonators
As part of the ongoing crackdown on illegal and unregulated institutions, Mr. Dhami announced that 250 illegal madrasas have been sealed to date. These actions are aligned with the state’s efforts to streamline minority education and ensure quality and accountability in all educational institutions.
Under “Operation Kalanemi,” action is also being taken against fraudulent individuals impersonating Hindu seers with the intention to deceive or disrupt societal harmony. This initiative has been praised for safeguarding religious integrity and upholding spiritual authenticity.
Madrasa Board to be Abolished, State Curriculum to be Introduced
In a major policy decision aimed at educational reform, Mr. Dhami confirmed that the Uttarakhand Madrasa Board will be abolished starting July 1, 2026. The change will be facilitated under the newly enacted Minority Education Act, ensuring that all madrasas in the state transition to the state-approved education curriculum.
This move is being seen as a step toward uniform education standards, promoting national integration and empowering students with contemporary learning frameworks.
Uniform Civil Code for Equality and Governance
Reiterating his commitment to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Mr. Dhami emphasized that the code is not targeted at any specific community but is a measure to ensure legal equality and justice for all citizens.
This balanced and inclusive approach highlights the state’s dedication to a progressive, fair, and modern civil governance structure, with a strong legal foundation.
A Model for Assertive and Inclusive Governance
With these developments, Uttarakhand under Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami is emerging as a model state for assertive governance and developmental decision-making. The government’s focus on land reform, educational standardization, and civil equality reflects a commitment to balanced growth, security, and social harmony.
