Massive Gains in Social Security and Women-Centric Welfare
Ms. Banerjee emphasized that Bengal has emerged as a national model in implementing effective social welfare schemes. The state has created twelve lakh self-help groups, significantly strengthening grassroots economic empowerment.
She highlighted the success of the Lakshmi Bhandar social security scheme, under which every eligible woman receives monthly assistance—Rs. 1000 for the general category and Rs. 1200 for SC/ST categories. Currently, two crore and twenty-one lakh women are benefitting from the scheme, which she termed a lifelong support structure for women’s financial stability.
Employment Growth and Expanding Economic Corridors
Sharing employment achievements, the Chief Minister noted that more than two crore jobs have been created over the past 14 years, with an additional one crore jobs targeted for the near future.
Six major economic corridors are under construction, aimed at boosting industrial activity, logistics capacity, and regional connectivity. She added that unemployment in West Bengal has reduced by 40 percent due to consistent policy interventions and sustained economic investment.
Since 2011, the state has attracted investments worth two lakh crore rupees, contributing to robust economic expansion.
Recognitions in National Development Indicators
The Chief Minister also stated that West Bengal has topped the country four times in key development parameters including MGNREGA performance, rural housing, and village road construction. These achievements, she said, reflect the state’s administrative efficiency and long-term planning.
Continued Commitment to Food Security and Public Welfare
Reaffirming the government’s dedication to welfare-driven governance, Ms. Banerjee highlighted major investments in food security schemes.
The state has spent Rs. 1 lakh crore on the Khadya Sathi scheme, providing food security to nine crore people. Additionally, Rs. 1,717 crore was spent on the Duare Ration initiative, benefiting seven crore citizens.
Cultural and Religious Infrastructure Boost Across the State
Ms. Banerjee also spoke about West Bengal’s cultural development projects. A grand Jagannath temple has been established in Digha, while a large Durga temple is under construction on 15 acres in New Town. She added that a Mahakaal Mandir (Shiva temple) is set to come up in Siliguri, further enhancing the state’s spiritual and tourism infrastructure.
