Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has unveiled an ambitious vision to transform Uttar Pradesh into a developed state by 2047, coinciding with India’s centenary of independence. The strategy focuses on rural youth empowerment, higher education, modern infrastructure, agricultural productivity, and regional equity, aiming to position UP as a $6 trillion economy, contributing around 20% to India’s projected GDP.
Historical Context: Challenges Before 2017
Before 2017, UP faced multiple challenges in education and rural development:
- Limited access to technical and higher education, with 526 polytechnics and 2,642 ITIs.
- Weak research and innovation infrastructure.
- Rural communities lacked basic amenities such as pucca housing, roads, electricity, and potable water.
- Panchayats struggled with limited resources and administrative capacity, affecting program delivery.
Progress Since 2017: Key Achievements
The Yogi government has undertaken several reforms over the past eight and a half years:
Education and Skill Development
- Expansion of higher education: 24 state universities and 49 private universities, including 6 new state and 23 new private universities.
- Technical education scaled up: 3,310 ITIs and 2,138 polytechnic institutes.
- Modernization partnerships: Over 150 government ITIs upgraded with Tata Technologies collaboration.
- Quality assurance: 95+ institutions accredited by NAAC, 67 institutions included in national rankings.
