Senior IPS officer Brijesh Singh has been appointed Principal Secretary to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. This is the first time in recent years that a senior IPS officer has been appointed to this powerful position.
An IPS officer of the 1996 batch, Singh was one of the powerful bureaucrats during Mr Devendra Fadnavis’s Chief Ministership, occupying the coveted post of Director General of Information and Public Relations in addition to being in charge of the Cyber Crime branch which directly reported to the Chief Secretary. Later, Mr Singh was shifted to the post of Additional Director General (Home Guards) by the Uddhav Thackeray government.
The CMO currently, comprises Additional Chief Secretary Bhushan Gagrani and Principal Secretary Vikas Kharge.
