During her two-day visit to the BSF Frontier in Meghalaya from February 9th to 10th, the Additional Director General of BSF (Eastern Command) Kolkata, the 1993-batch IPS officer Sonali Mishra, monitored the existing security situation and deliberated on numerous operational and administrative aspects of Border management in the region.

She received a warm welcome from Officer Harbax Singh Dhillon, Inspector General at BSF Meghalaya, and other senior officers, followed by a “guard of honour” at the officer’s institute in Shillong. During her visit, officer Dhillon briefed her about the general security scenario and the challenges (along with the measures taken by the BSF) at the Indo-Bangladesh International border of Meghalaya Frontier.

ADG Mishra examined the region’s administrative aspects and human resources before visiting the Composite Hospital at Shillong and meeting with patients. She even addressed the gathered officers and Jawans during a “Sainik Sammelan” at Umpling, Shillong.

During the second day of her itinerary, ADG Mishra, accompanied by IG BSF Meghalaya, visited the border outposts (BOPs) on the India-Bangladesh border in South West & East Khasi Hills, where she interacted with field commanders and inspected the prevailing security situation and reviewed Ops preparedness to alleviate international border crimes. Sonali Mishra made a point to interact with headmen and local villagers of Nolikatta before inaugurating the newly constructed buildings at BOPs under BSF Meghalaya Frontier.

Before concluding her visit, she uttered words of appreciation for the unrelenting efforts and dedication of the BSF personnel in safeguarding the International border of Meghalaya.
