On February 10th, the Rajasthan government appointed the senior IPS officer Utkal Ranjan Sahoo as the state’s new Director General of Police (DGP) for a tenure of two years or until further notification. Officer Sahu succeeded officer Umesh Mishra as the new DGP after the latter opted for voluntary retirement in December 2023. Mr. Sahoo is an IPS of 1988 batch.
He hails from Odisha and was promoted to the rank of DG in June 2020. Before that he was posted as DG (Director General) Home Guard for about 2.5 years.
