Mr. Sunil Kumar, who has been made the new education minister of Bihar, is a former IPS officer who joined JDU after taking retirement from the service in 2020. He contested in the Bihar Assembly elections and became MLA from Bhore seat in the Gopalganj district. After wining the election for the first time, he was given the reins of the Liquor Prohibition Department.
Even after government reshuffle, Mr. Kumar is among the few who has continued in a ministerial position. Coming from a family of politicians, Mr. Kumar’s father, Late Chandrika Ram, was also a minister in Bihar. His brother Anil Kumar was an MLA from Gopalganj district.
CAREER
Mr. Kumar did his post-graduation in history from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, in 1984. He joined IPS and remained in the post of Senior SP of Patna district for more than six years, from 1997. He retired as the Director General-cum-Managing Director, Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation.
