Nowadays, women are at the forefront of every occupation and are competing on an equal level with their male counterparts. This year, for the sixth time in the Indian Police Service history, a woman IPS officer lead the much-awaited Passing Out Parade or Dikshant Parade. The Dikshant Parade was held at the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) on Friday and a total of 149 officer trainees, including 17 foreign officers, participated in it.

This year’s parade was commanded by Ms. Darpan Ahluwalia, IPS (P), Punjab Cadre of 73RR. Prior to this, Ranjitha Sharma of Rajasthan cadre in 2020 and Kiran Shruthi D.V. of Tamil Nadu cadre in 2019 led the Dikshant Parades. The batch of probationers this year comprises 31 women officers, including 27 IPS officer trainees.

The Passing Out Parade is held every year after the completion of the 46-week-long Phase-I Basic Course training. The 73RR (regular recruits) joined the SVPNPA on December 28, 2020, after completing their 10-week-long Foundation Course at Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy of Administration in Mussoorie along with other services trainee officers like IAS, IFS, etc.

The Dikhant Parade was graced by Mr. Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor. Speaking at the passing out parade of the 73rd batch of IPS probationers at the SVPNPA, he said that apart from maintaining law and order, police forces play a very important role in border management spanning over 15,000 km, covering Pakistan, China and Myanmar and Bangladesh, with whom India has security issues.

He further pointed out that India’s sovereignty goes as far as the last police station’s jurisdiction from the coastal areas to the border areas and maintaining law and order in every part of the 32-lakh sq km of India is the responsibility of the whole police force.
