He Served in J&K, NIA, UIDAI and ACB. Now Anand Jain Leads Ladakh Police

Anand Jain, the 1999-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre and new Ladakh DGP, brings decades of field policing, anti-corruption work, national security experience and senior command to the Union Territory.

Before commanding a police force in one of India’s most strategically important Union Territories, Anand Jain began his professional journey in engineering.

A Mechanical Engineering graduate from the 1995 batch of NIT Raipur, Jain went on to enter the Indian Police Service on September 20, 1999, marking the beginning of a career that would take him through some of Jammu and Kashmir’s most demanding policing assignments and eventually to the top police post in Ladakh.

A Career Built on Ground-Level Policing

Jain’s early career was closely connected with field policing in Jammu and Kashmir.

He served as SDPO Ganderbal and SP East Srinagar before taking on responsibilities as In-charge SP Baramulla and later SSP Baramulla. His career then took him to Reasi as SSP, followed by Rajouri and Jammu.

These assignments placed him in command of districts where policing required a combination of law-and-order management, investigation, security coordination and direct engagement with local communities.

His service record also includes a tenure as AIG Provision/Transport at Police Headquarters and command of the 15th Battalion of the India Reserve Police.

By the time he moved into senior headquarters positions, Jain had accumulated experience across district policing, administration and armed police.

A Wider National Role

Jain’s career was not confined to Jammu and Kashmir. He served on central deputation with the Unique Identification Authority of India. His service record also includes a stint with the National Investigation Agency, where he served as Deputy Inspector General.

This gave the police officer from the J&K field a wider institutional canvas, extending his experience into national-level security and governance. He later served as Inspector General of Police, Headquarters, Jammu and Kashmir.

Leading the Anti-Corruption Bureau

One of the defining chapters of Jain’s career came in 2019, when he was posted as Inspector General, Anti-Corruption Bureau, and took charge as its Director. At the ACB, his tenure included efforts to strengthen vigilance mechanisms and bring technology into the functioning of the organisation.

The Bureau introduced a Departmental Vigilance Officers Portal to improve coordination with vigilance officers across government departments. Jain also participated in initiatives aimed at strengthening the handling and monitoring of vigilance cases.

His work in this sphere received formal recognition in 2020 when he was awarded the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor’s Gold Medal for Honesty, Integrity and Meritorious Public Service. The award included a gold medal, cash prize, citation and certificate.

Back to the Frontline of Jammu Policing

After his long stint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Jain returned to zonal policing. In October 2023, he took charge as IGP Jammu Zone. His responsibilities brought him back to the operational side of policing across the Jammu region.

He was promoted to the rank of Additional Director General of Police in December 2023.  As a senior officer in the Jammu Zone, he remained involved in reviewing security, law and order, crime and policing arrangements across the region.

Recognition Across Three Decades

Jain’s service has been recognised with some of the country’s major police honours.

He was honored with the Police Medal for Gallantry, 2006, followed by the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, 2018. In 2025, he received the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, adding the country’s highest police service recognition to a career spanning more than two decades.

Commanding the Armed Police

In January 2025, Jain was posted as ADGP Armed, Jammu and Kashmir. The assignment placed him in charge of the Armed Police at a senior level, adding another major command responsibility to a career that had already covered field policing, investigation, anti-corruption work, national security and police administration.

His tenure included overseeing organisational matters within the Armed Police, including large-scale promotions of police personnel following the prescribed departmental process.

A New Chapter in Ladakh

On June 25, 2026, Anand Jain assumed his latest and highest responsibility as Director General of Police, Union Territory of Ladakh.

The move brings to Ladakh an officer whose career has crossed several dimensions of policing: the district police station, the counter-insurgency environment, central investigative institutions, anti-corruption administration, zonal command and armed police.

Now, in Ladakh, those experiences converge.

From a Mechanical Engineering classroom to the senior-most police position in a strategically vital Union Territory, Anand Jain’s career has unfolded across very different institutions and responsibilities.

The 1999-batch IPS officer begins another chapter — this time as the police chief of Ladakh, carrying with him more than 26 years of service across the police, security and administrative systems of India.
