Western Railway’s Mission Amanat Helping To Recover Lost Luggage Worth Crores of Train Passengers

The Western Railway has started an innovative initiative called Mission Amanat, though which lost luggage of railway passengers are found and returned with the help of the RPF.

Most of us have gone through the experience of losing our luggage or having them displaced while traveling at some point in life. Be it in the airports or railway stations, people often either leave behind their luggage or it gets displaced while in movement in cargo. To find a solution to this, Western Railway has taken a step to systemize the process by launching ‘Mission Amanat’, making it easier now for railway passengers to get back their lost luggage.

According to the records, in 2021 alone, around 2,000 passengers left behind their luggage (valued at around 4.24 crores) in trains as well as stations of the Central and Western Railways jurisdictions.

INFORMING THE PASSENGERS

“Under Mission Amanat initiative of the Western Railway, the details of lost luggage along with photos are being posted on the official website. The information is uploaded by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on the official website which is at wr.indianrailways.gov.in,” said a senior officer of Western Railway, while speaking to media.

Another official said, “Passengers can check whether their luggage which went missing or was lost in railway premises or trains is available at the ‘Lost Property Office’ centres at the stations.”

The lost luggage can be found on the official website by following the below-given steps:

● The rail passengers who want to get back their lost belongings first need to go to the Western Railway website

● Then, they need to click on the “Mission Amanat – RPF” tab

● Notably, the RPF shares the details of the missing items, as well as photos

● If the passengers find their belongings on the website, then they can claim them by providing proof of ownership

BENEFICIARIES UNDER MISSION AMANAT

In the year 2021, the total number of left-behind passengers’ luggage found in the jurisdiction of Central Railway and Western Railway was 1,973. Whereas the value of passengers’ left-behind luggage retrieved by CR and WR was Rs 4.24 crore.

Talking about the results of the initiative in Western Railway alone, 1317 passenger’s lost luggage was found which was valued at Rs 2.58 crore. Through this initiative, the RPF team was able to return the belongings to their rightful owner, post verification process.

A Railway Protection Force official, while talking to the media, said, “It is noted that passengers in a hurry tend to lose their luggage while boarding the train. With this initiative, we were able to track more than one thousand luggage and hand it to the rightful owner.”
