Ensuring 100% Tap Water Connection in Rural Jaipur

District Collector Rajan Vishal’s efforts have brought down water scarcity in rural Jaipur substantially. Over 70 villages have received 100 percent tap water connection. The remaining villages will receive the connections by 2024.

Considered as the most water deficient state in the country, Rajasthan has been facing severe water crisis, with the decadal average study inferring that there has been a decline in groundwater by 62.70% in the state, with only 37.20% rise. The water scarcity in the state mostly owes to the erratic behaviour of the monsoon and scanty rainfall in the region.

Due to this, several households in rural Rajasthan have been deprived of clean drinking water for ages. However, in one district, the water situation has started changing for the better after tap water connectivity was introduced. We are talking about Jaipur district and the change was brought about by District Collector Rajan Vishal.

100 PER CENT TAP WATER CONNECTION

Due to Mr. Vishal’s efforts, today, over 70 villages in rural Jaipur have access to 100 per cent tap water connection. The initiative was taken under the Jal Jeevan Mission of Government of India.

100 per cent functional tap water connections are now available in four gram panchayats, namely Bhankri, Chobala, Kudli, Mendwas in Jaipur district.

Apart from this, over 56 villages in the district have already received 90 per cent tap water connection and are on their way to receive the remaining 10 per cent.

REMAINING CONNECTIONS BY 2024

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission,out of 5.27 lakh families in rural Jaipur, 1.80 lakh families have been benefitted with the scheme of functional tap water connection already.

To speed up the pace, Mr. Vishal asked officers to organise meetings of Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) from time to time and workshops in each block.

“The remaining households will be provided with tap connections by 2024. Functional tap connections have been made available to more than 10,000 institutions through pipeline,” he informed.

OTHER STEPS

To provide quick redressal to the public, Mr. Vishal has also instructed the officials to ensure quick disposal of complaints related not only to water, but also electricity, sanitation, roads, and health services.

He also enquired about the pending cases on the Rajasthan Sampark Portal and ordered that the cases should be resolved within a period of 60 days.

And, taking the first step towards beautification of Jaipur city, he asked the Jaipur Municipal Corporation to remove all illegal hoardings, posters and banners and take strict legal action against the offenders.
