Five Bureaucrats suffering from Covid-19 in Assam

Covid situation has been assuming alarming proportions in Assam as one after another bureaucrat is falling prey to the deadly virus with the tally of infected officers having risen to five this week.

While Deputy Commissioners and Superintendent of Police of almost districts in Assam have left no stone unturned in their fight against Covid-19 pandemic, five of them have fallen victim to the deadly virus. The situation has been assuming alarming proportions since the Director General of Police (DGP) who himself was bedridden for past ten days, has fortunately tested negative on Monday.

Four senior Assam Police officers, including three Superintendents of Police, have tested positive for COVID-19 this week, state government officials said.

Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro, Biswajit Pegu

Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro, Biswajit Pegu has been found to be Covid Positive on Monday. Tinsukia SP Shiladitya Chetia and his Kokrajhar counterpart Rakesh Roushan have tested positive for the infection.

Pabindra  Kumar Nath, SP of Hailakandi district has also tested positive for Coronavirus and was in home isolation, the officials said. Tinsukia’s Additional Superintendent of Police Ripunjoy Kakoti was also afflicted with the disease.

Cheti, Nath and Kakoti were suffering from fever and cough and their swab samples were tested. Roushan’s wife too tested positive for the infection during rapid antigen tests and both of them were advised home isolation, they said.

Dhubri Superintendent of Police Anand Mishra had tested positive for COVID-19 last week.

A total of 3,310 Assam Police personnel, including Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, have tested positive for the infection till date.

Eleven police personnel have died, while 2,698 have recovered and 601 are undergoing treatment.

The Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta who had tested positive for Covid earlier, turned out to be negative in the test conducted on him at Guwahati Medical College Hospital on Monday.

The DGP later announced hat he will henceforth try to keep his mind full of positivity and hoped to join as Covid warrior with more positive attitude and hope.
