He was a student of History in University of Delhi, who later became a professor in the same university. But destiny had something else in store for him. Mr Choubey is still an academician. He is still a chronicler of history, a keen observer of anything and everything unfolding around him and of course an analyst of contemporary events. He was part of Bihar police and later shifted to Jharkhand after creation of the new state in 2000. He has seen creation of the state and has dealt with challenges of a police force in a new state.
Jharkhand is endowed with rich mineral deposits especially iron and coal mines. That facilitated rapid economic development of the state and emergence of industrial clusters in Dhanbad, Jamshedpur and Bokaro. Fast economic development coupled with goondaism, naxalism, communalism and separate statehood agitation, created lot of law and order challenges for the police.
Mr Choubey in this candid interview talks about all these issues one by one. This is the first episode of the video interview in which he talks mostly about organised gangs and how he tackled them. Please watch the interview for an insight into the issues faced by a newly-born state which is both rooted in its culture and ethos and wanted to break free economically.
