Is Air India Carrying The Burden of Split Before Privatisation?

After the AI 171 crashed in Ahmedabad, Air India flights are in the news almost every day, for all the wrong reasons. What is the reason? We spoke to its former Dy GM, Mr Inderjeet Singh, about what ails the airline once called the National Carrier of India, its causes and probable cures.

Any air passenger just goes by the experience in the cabin – about the condition of his seat, air conditioning, quality of food, toilets’ condition and treatment received from the stewards and air hostesses. Beyond the cabin, a passenger is most bothered about the landing and take-off experience. Has one ever bothered about the age of the aircraft, its model and the condition of its engine?

Probably, we take such things for granted. We think it is the bounden duty of the airline to ensure the safe journey of its passengers. Yes, it indeed is. But does Air India think so too? The airline has, of late, been marred by an umpteen number of complaints ranging from choked toilets to engine snags.

Indian Masterminds spoke to former Deputy General Manager of Air India Mr Inderjit Singh on such issues faced by the airline and its passengers. Please watch the full video by clicking on the link…

We spoke to him about the causes of such issues and their possible resolution. What has gone wrong with the airline which was started off by Mr JRD Tata, taken over by the government and is now back in control of the Tata Group? Is privatisation the real cause? Is Air India doomed, and can it be resuscitated? If yes, then how?

We spoke to Mr Inderjit Singh earlier about the possible reasons for AI171’s crash in Ahmedabad. That video too can be assessed by clicking on the following link…
