Civil Servants Celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with Cleanliness and Beautification Drives

As India celebrated the 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, on 2 October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a floral tribute to the Mahatma at Rajghat. As Baapu (as Mahatma Gandhi is fondly referred to) was renowned the world over, the day is internationally celebrated as the Day of Non-Violence.

‘Swaraj’ (self-governance) and ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence) were the two strong pillars of Baapu which won him accolades across the world. While paying homage to Baapu, Mr. Narendra Modi wrote, “His ideals reverberate globally and his thoughts have provided strength to millions of people.”

Mahatma Gandhi along with other leaders led the India’s freedom movement against the British rule in India. To commemorate his contribution to the nation, Indian bureaucrats posted in different parts of the country organised cleanliness and beautification drives.

Officers like Anupam Sharma, DFO Sendhwa, DM Bulandshahr Chandra Prakash Singh, IPS officer Arif Shaikh, IAS officer Ravinder Kumar, IAS officer Aditya Negi, etc. conducted various cleanliness and beautification drives to commemorate the occasion.

IFS officer Anupam Sharma along with other team members conducted cleanliness drive in the DFO campus. He also addressed the local tribal people and asked them to quit their drinking habit.

DM Bulandshahr Chandra Prakash Sinha on the other hand commemorated the occasion by planting saplings and paid homage to both Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries.

A cleanliness drive was conducted by Deputy Commissioner Shyambir Singh in the Ganderbal district of Kashmir.

IPS officer Arif Shaikh along with Raipur Smart City team conducted a cleanliness drive in Oxyzone Park, Raipur. Around 100 bags of plastic waste were collected. An effort was also made by the officer to give a cleanliness message through wall painting.

A lamp donation programme was organised at the Laxmibai Park, Jhansi, under the chairmanship of IAS officer Ravindra Kumar. In this programme, rangoli of Mahatma Gandhi was made by the students of Fine Arts.

Lastly, DM Shimla, Aditya Negi, conducted a sanitation drive in Mashobra near Shimla to mark Baapu’s birth anniversary.
