Sangeeta Gupta: The Accidental Filmmaker with a Passion for Art and Travel

How did an IRS officer with no filmmaking experience end up with six films archived in the Library of Congress? Discover Sangeeta Gupta's unexpected journey!
Indian Masterminds Stories

Sangeeta Gupta, a former IRS officer and a prominent abstract artist, never imagined she would one day become a filmmaker. Yet, when she couldn’t find the right person to direct a film on her close friend, the renowned poet and art critic Keshav Malik, she took matters into her own hands. Without any formal training in filmmaking, Gupta embraced the challenge, and her journey as an accidental filmmaker began.

Her debut film on Malik premiered at the ICCR Auditorium, marking the start of a new chapter in her creative career. Despite facing criticism, Gupta took it all positively, using it as a catalyst for growth. Over time, she honed her craft and went on to make three films about Keshav Malik, each one a deeper exploration of his life and legacy.

Gupta’s dedication to filmmaking is evident in her growing body of work. Six of her films are now preserved in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., a testament to their archival value. Her love for travel has fueled her filmmaking journey, with a total of 13 films made on Jordan and Egypt. Wherever she goes, her camera and equipment are always by her side, ready to capture the world through her lens.

Currently, Gupta is working on her next film, with the first footage and draft already in progress. Watch her exclusive video interview here to know more about this multifaceted officer-
